It’s here.

In a lot of people’s minds Instagram is the last major app needed for Windows Phone to have true app equality. There have been many, many leaks and rumors to suggest that Instagram was coming. Nokia even created an app explicitly for persuading Instagram to come to Windows Phone. Thankfully all that drama is behind us now. So now that it’s here was it worth the wait?

In a word: no. The app has all the standard filters and photo editing tools, but that’s about it. One giant feature is missing: video support. One of the newest features of Instagram is the ability to create 15 second videos and add filters. That feature was left out of Instagram for Windows Phone. Another thing missing is the standard Instagram viewfinder for taking photos. Instead you have to use the default camera and then crop the photo.

An Instagram spokesperson said “we’re not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows Phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible.” Did they not have enough time to do this already?

Instagram is available only for Windows Phone 8 devices as a BETA. Many, many people have asked and pleaded for this app. “Instagram for Windows Phone” has always been one of the top search terms bringing people to this site. Having this app is a very big deal, even if it’s not the greatest.
