Microsoft’s ‘Project Siena’ makes it easy for anyone to make a Windows 8 app

Project Siena

If you’ve ever thought about making an app the next thought to usually pop in your head is “that’s too difficult.” Usually that’s true, unless you want to spend a lot of time learning how to code. Microsoft has always been good about making developing apps accessible to everyone. Their new app, Project Siena, is a Windows 8 app that makes Windows 8 apps.

Project Siena makes it dead simple to build your very own Windows 8.1 apps. It’s very similar to Microsoft’s Windows Phone App Studio. Basically you are presented with a blank canvas that you can add images, text boxes, galleries, buttons, lists, etc. You can customize the text, colors, and size of pretty much anything. Content-wise you can import data from Excel, Sharepoint, RSS feeds, and more.

It might sound complicated, but once you get the hang of it it’s really fun. The app has even been optimized for touch so you can play around on your tablet. Once you create an app you can share it with anyone that has Windows 8.1 or publish it to the Store. Pretty neat. Download the app for free on Windows 8.1 below. Happy building!
