Microsoft upgrades Surface Pro 2 with faster processor

Well, here’s a kick in the pants to Surface Pro 2 users. Just two months after launch Microsoft is already upgrading the hardware of the Surface Pro 2. The processor is now clocked at 1.9GHz instead of the 1.6GHz that shipped two months ago. The difference isn’t massive, but it is a little annoying to anyone that already bought one.

A Microsoft spokesperson said “”Microsoft routinely makes small changes to internal components over the lifetime of a product, based on numerous factors including supply chain partnerships, availability, and value for our customers.” It’s certainly cool of Microsoft to keep improving products after they are released, but it also makes current users sour.

Do you have a Surface Pro 2? How do you feel about Microsoft making changes so soon?

Joe, take a powder. Obsolescence is built into all technology. If something is good value when you bought it, why whine when better value turns up? It has been going on since silicon was sand.

  • We are not talking about the same thing. I expect my phone or PC to be surpassed by something new and better, but I don’t expect that new thing to be the same device I have.
