Sony adds to the speculation that it will release a Windows Phone

Recently the rumors of Sony releasing a Windows Phone device popped up once again. In the past we saw prototype Windows Phone 7 devices from Sony, but they have never officially released anything. In speaking with TechRadar Sony’s European mobile chief has added fuel to the fire of these rumors. We could actually see a Sony Windows Phone device.

Pierre Perron, the Sony mobile chief, says the company doesn’t want to become a “single OS manufacturer.” He says it’s not a viable long-term business model. Pierre says they are always in contact with for PC-related business, but they exploring the mobile space too. He says “One thing is using the platform [Windows Phone] itself, and another is ‘what can we deliver on top of it’?”

Sony would like to be able to offer something on top of Windows Phone, like Nokia does. That is certainly understandable. No one wants to offer a boring product similar to other devices. We think Sony can offer excellent build quality that Windows Phone users would want. Do you?
