Microsoft currently has web apps for several of their Office applications, but they aren’t very popular among consumers. Google’s free offerings are much more widely used. One reason for that is the branding Microsoft has been using is not clear. The Verge is reporting that Microsoft will soon re-brand their Office web apps to “Office Online.”

The newly re-branded Office Online will roll out in the coming weeks. The apps included in Office Online are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. The individual apps will now be called “Word Online” or Excel Online’ instead of the confusing “Word Web App.” Currently the web apps are found inside of SkyDrive, which they will still be, but Office.com will serve as a new portal to the apps. Microsoft hopes this makes them more easily accessible.

Look for these changes to start popping up in the next few weeks. Do you use any Office web apps? Do you use Google Docs? What is your preferred online office service? Let us know below!
