Microsoft invests $15 million in Foursquare for Windows location-based info

Today Microsoft has made a big move in improving Bing and Windows location-based information. Microsoft has invested $15 million in Foursquare to create a “strategic partnership” that will be beneficial to both parties. Microsoft will gain a treasure trove of location-based data, while Foursquare will be able to sustain its business. What will Microsoft use the data for?

Foursquare has confirmed that Microsoft will use the company’s data in mobile services and Bing search results. Microsoft will be integrated the Foursquare data directly into Windows Phone and Windows. This is a great move for Microsoft to help them compete with Google’s massive wealth of location data. Paired with Bing and Nokia’s HERE mapping data, Microsoft is in a good position to deliver great location information.
