Windows Phone 8.1 Cortana will be powered by Foursquare

Earlier this week Microsoft invested $15 million in Foursquare. At the time we talked about how Microsoft would use Foursquare’s data to beef up location services and search results in Windows and Windows Phone. A new report says Microsoft will indeed be using this data in Windows Phone 8.1, especially with the new Cortana voice-assistant.

The Foursquare data will help Cortana provide location-based tips, discounts, and suggestions. Local Scout currently does this to some degree. Cortana will make it easier to access, and the Foursquare data will make the results even better. Cortana is expected to debut with Windows Phone 8.1 in April. This will be Microsoft’s big attempt to compete with Siri and Google Now. Everything we’ve hear so far sounds very promising. Hopefully Microsoft can deliver.
