Almost six months ago Microsoft announced their purchase of Nokia’s hardware division. Nokia wants to have the deal done by the end of this quarter, and today they reiterated that in a press release. An issue in India involving an ongoing tax dispute was rumored to be interfering with the deal. Nokia wanted to reassure that everything with Microsoft will continue to go as planned, and the deal will be finalized by the end of March.
New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about the importance of mobile when he was first interviewed. He will definitely be using Nokia to help the future of Microsoft. Their new goal of being a “devices and services” company will require a great hardware manufacturer. Nokia, along with the existing Surface teams, will provide some excellent Microsoft-branded hardware. Here is an excerpt from the press release:
Nokia would like to stress that recent developments in India related to ongoing tax proceedings are not expected to affect the timing of the closing nor the material deal terms of the anticipated transaction between Nokia and Microsoft, announced on September 3, 2013.
