Nokia Lumia Icon could go global as the Lumia 929 later this year

The Lumia Icon is an awesome phone. It has all the features we loved from the Lumia 1520, but it has a much more reasonable screen size. For that reason there are a lot of you that wish the Icon wasn’t stuck as an exclusive Verizon phone. A report from TechnoBuffalo claims that Nokia will be bringing the Icon to the rest of the world as the Lumia 929.

TB cites “industry sources” for this claim. We can’t know for sure how valid the report is since we don’t know the sources. Plus, with the history of other Lumia devices on Verizon there isn’t much to go on. The Lumia 928 never went global. Take this report with a large grain of salt. If it is indeed true we will see more leaks soon.

Personally, as an AT&T user I would love to have a chance at getting the Lumia 929. It has the same great quad-core processor, 20MP PureView camera, and an awesome 1080p display that fits in pockets much easier. We’ll have our full review of the Lumia Icon later this week so you can decide if it’s the phone for you.

  • Want. But off contract with a T-Mob type plan. That is all. :)

  • Artful Dodger

The 928 never went global because it didn’t need to. I was essentially a rebranded 925, which was global.
