First video of Cortana in action in Windows Phone 8.1

Here it is, folks. This is the big one. What we’ve all been waiting for. Cortana voice-assistant in Windows Phone 8.1 on video. This is the real deal. In the video below we can watch a new user set up Cortana for the first time. This gives us a great look at how Cortana will look and feel in real life use. Screenshots are nice, but this really gives us more details.

The set up process is pretty straight forward. She says her name and tells the user she is here to make life easier. Then she asks you to sign in to your Microsoft account, what you want to be called, and then some questions to describe yourself:

  • What are a couple of the most enjoyable parts of your everyday evenings?
  • When you think about food, what’s most important to you these days?
  • What are two of your main motivations for going out to an event/activity?
  • When you want to catch up on what’s going on in the world, which section do you go to first?

For each of those questions there is a list of options to choose from. After that you are basically good to go. You can go into the settings and choose Quiet Hours for when Cortana should silence notifications. This is a great look into how Cortana will work. The questions about food and activitives are especially interesting. We wonder what Cortana will do with this information.
