Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone 8 arrives, missing voice feature

Almost exactly a week after being announced, the official Facebook Messenger app for Windows Phone has launched. This app brings Windows Phone up to speed with iOS and Android. Facebook “Chat” has been built into the stock Messaging app since Windows Phone 7, but it severely lacks features.

Now with a dedicated app it will be much easier for Facebook to add features. For an initial launch it has basically everything you would expect. You can see which friends are online, start group chats, send photos, add your location to messages, send stickers, and access the Sticker Store. The only thing you can’t do right now is send voice messages, but you can listen to them.

With Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp they will likely be improving Messenger a lot more. This could quickly become the world’s most popular messaging service if they play their cards right. Download Facebook Messenger for free on Windows Phone 8 below. Enjoy!
