Pandora is about to get a lot more expensive

Pandora is about to get a lot more expensive for almost everyone. Pandora One is their paid service that removes ads and the limits on play time. Currently it is available as a subscription for $3.99 per month or $36 per year. Starting in May these prices will be raised 25-percent and some will be removed. Even current subscribers will have to pay the new prices.

  • Users currently paying $3.99 per month will be locked in until some time in the future when Pandora changes their mind.
  • New subscribers will start paying $4.99 per month in May. ($12 more per year)
  • Current subscribers with the $36 per year plan will be automatically bumped to the $3.99 per month, which is $12 more.

The only way to escape the price bump is to use the current $3.99 per month plan.¬†What is Pandora’s reason for the price hike? They say that royalty fees have increased 53-percent in the last five years. In other words, they are paying more to artists and pocketing less for themselves. It should also be noted that Pandora still offers completely free service (with ads) to everyone. For most people that works just fine, but if you are a hardcore music listener you might want to snag the $3.99 plan while you can.
