Huawei backtracks, says they won’t release Android-Windows Phone device

Well that didn’t last long. Last week Huawei’s Cheif Marketing Officer was quoted as saying they would be bringing a dual-boot Android/Windows Phone device to the U.S. The news spread like wildfire across the internet, but today Huawei has released a statement to clarify a few things.

Huawei is taking a full reversal on that statement from their Chief Marketing Officer. The full quote is below.

“Huawei Consumer Business Group adopts an open approach towards mobile operating systems to provide a range of choices for consumers, However, most of our products are based on Android OS, [and] at this stage there are no plans to launch a dual-OS smartphone in the near future.”

We think this is actually good news for Windows Phone. Dual-boot device may get more people to try Windows Phone, but when they release a few of their apps aren’t available it will be even easier for them to ditch the OS. Learning how to use Windows Phone, and sticking with it, takes a commitment from most people. If your old familiar OS is just a click away it’s hard to stick with something different.

Are you happy or sad about Huawei canceling their dual-boot plan? Would you have bought the device?
