Microsoft and Nokia will finalize buyout in April

Nokia HQ

Microsoft and Nokia have announced that their $7.2 billion deal will not be finalized this month, as previously announced. They now expect to put the finishing touches on the deal next month. When the deal is complete Microsoft will own Nokia’s devices and services division, allowing them to make Lumia devices in-house.

The delay is due to antitrust authorities in Asia. Everyone else has given the deal the green light, including the US Justice Department and the European Commission. After the deal is finished it will still be some time before we start seeing “Microsoft Lumia” devices. We can still expect Nokia to pump out Windows Phone devices for a while. Are you looking forward to Nokia and Microsoft building phones together? Would you prefer Nokia to stay separate?
