After some drama concerning the Microsoft-made YouTube app for Windows Phone is appears Google is ready to cooperate. The Verge is reporting that Google has announced they are working together with Microsoft to create a brand new YouTube app. This is welcomed news after the recent disputes.

The whole thing started a few weeks ago when Microsoft released an unofficial official YouTube app. Google sent them a cease and desist after citing numerous terms of service violations. Earlier this week Microsoft updated the app to comply, but now it looks like a real official YouTube app is on the way. It looks like Microsoft's trap worked beautifully.

Details about the Xbox One continue to trickle out, and today we've got a doozy. Polygon is reporting that the Xbox One will have the ability to let friends take over gameplay remotely. The feature will be powered by Skype.

Say you're stuck in a level against a really difficult boss. Your friend has already beaten the boss and you need some help. The only problem is your friend isn't with you. With remote gameplay via Skype your friend will be able to take over the game and play for you. The original player can switch back in at any time.

The Xbox One will also take voice commands to a whole new level. Not only will you be able to talk to the One, but it will be able to talk to you as well. One example of the slightly creepy technology is the Kinect scanning faces in the room, if it doesn't recognize someone it will ask them to identify themselves. Once identified they will be added to the Xbox.

What do you think of these new features? Remote gameplay sounds pretty awesome, but the Kinect speaking to people in the room is a bit creepy. It sounds like the Xbox One will have some excellent new technology, and Skype and Windows are behind it.

Back in April we told you about Instagraph and Metrogram's plans to team up and conquer the Instagram for Windows Phone battle. Today the first half of the equation has been released. Instagraph version 2.0 is out now, and it includes the first iteration of Metrogram integration.

Instead of combining the two apps into one mega-app they have decided to work separately together. Instagraph now has a (M) button that will take users directly to Metrogram. In Metrogram you can like, comment, and share photos. Soon Metrogram will have a shortcut to Instagraph so you can quickly take a photo and upload.

The Metrogram integration is only available for the Windows Phone 8 version of Instagraph. Soon it will be available for WP7 users as well. Metrogram will soon be updated to include their half of the integration. This set-up works well, but is it better than a full featured app like Itsdagram?

Download Instagraph below for $0.99.

Twitter's 6-second video service, Vine, is famously only available on iOS. While Android users whine and complain the always resourceful Windows Phone developers are hard at work.

Twitter's 6-second video service, Vine, is famously only available on iOS. While Android users whine and complain the always resourceful Windows Phone developers are hard at work. Developer Graham Smith is making progress on a 3rd-party Vine app.

Vine allows users to create 6-second videos that are easily shareable. You can record snip-bits of video to fill the 6-seconds. This makes Vine an outlet for some very creative creations. Graham has made a good amount of progress on the app, as detailed below.

Progress on my 3rd-party Vine app (made using Vine’s private API documented here) is as follows:

Complete
•Login (including saving username / password — encrypted of course)
•Primary Timeline
•Popular Timeline
•Comments (including mentioning)
•Likes

Work In Progress
•Improved UI / UX (metro or bust)
•Live Tile w/ Powered by Background Agent
•Search (People & Hashtags)
•Hashtag Timelines

The State of Uploading

As for uploading, this is a trickier subject. I’ve been having issues with with upload feature because instead of going through their private API, they upload Vines (is that what we call them?) straight to their AWS.

We wish Graham nothing but the best. Having a Vine app for Windows Phone would be another great achievement With Windows Phone devs nothing is impossible.

One of the best new features of the Xbox One is the upgraded Kinect. The Kinect for Xbox One has a much improved 1080p camera that can track numerous people, even in the dark. The new Kinect can even track heartbeat and pressure points (don't ask us how). Microsoft has announced that the new Kinect will be coming to Windows devices after the launch of the Xbox One.

Microsoft says the Kinect for Windows will "revolutionize computing experiences." The Xbox One heavily relies on voice and gesture input to navigate the around the OS. With the Xbox One software and Windows having so much in common it only makes sense to use the same technology. Kinect might not have much use with something like a tablet or laptop, but it could be very useful for big all-in-one devices or family computers.

Make sure to check out all our Xbox One coverage.

It's happened to everyone. You're out and about without your computer and suddenly you need a file. You could be at home away from the office, on vacation, or just in a different room. What do you do? One solution is to just go find your computer, but sometimes that is not a reasonable answer. What if you could access your computer from anywhere with your phone?

Splashtop has been helping people access their computers on mobile for a while now. Their most recent version, Splashtop 2, is now available for Windows Phone 8. The app gives users remote access to Macs or PCs with the Splashtop software installed. You can access all the files, songs, videos and apps that are installed on your computer right from your phone. For a limited time (until August 31st) Windows Phone 8 users can get the app for free. Splashtop service will cost you $1.99 a month.

Microsoft is always making accessories to improve the experiences people have with their services. Mice and keyboards have been the bread and butter of their accessory business. Microsoft's new batch of mice add some interesting Windows 8 features that will hopefully help users.

Navigating around Windows 8 can be hard for first time users, especially if you're using a keyboard and mouse. Microsoft wants to make that easier by putting all the keys and gestures you need right at your fingertips. Today they announced two new mice: the Sculpt Comfort and Sculpt Mobile. Both mice come equipped with touch-sensitive Windows keys to get you to the Start screen quickly, but the Sculpt Comfort goes a step further.

The Sculpt Comfort has a blue strip on the left side with a touch sensitive Windows key and gesture strip. It sits right where your thumb rests for easy access. Touching the Windows key takes you to the Start screen, a gesture from top to bottom brings up the opened apps on the left side of the screen, and gesturing from bottom to top cycles through recent apps. The Sculpt Mobile mouse just has a Windows key below the scroll wheel.

The Scultp Comfort Mouse will be available in June for $39.95. The Sculpt Mobile Mouse will be available later this month for $29.95. Both will be available in the US. Do you like the idea of a Windows key on a mouse? Will you buy one of these?

The next generation of Lumia will start with the Lumia EOS. This beast is said to have a massive 41 MP camera which allows for zooming that you can't do on other phones. It may be coming as early as July 9th.

When the Nokia Lumia 925 was announced a lot of people were left underwhelmed. That's not completely unwarranted when you consider the 925 is essentially a Lumia 920 with a metal body. We know Nokia is capable of more, and that will be demonstrated with the next generation of devices.

The next generation will start with the Lumia EOS. Rumors of the EOS started a long time ago along with the Catwalk (Lumia 925). At the 925 event Nokia mentioned they had another phone planned for release this summer. Mobile Geeks is reporting that that device will be the Lumia EOS and could launch as early as July 9th.

The EOS is said to be the first Windows Phone device to have the 41MP PureView camera that was first introduced in the 808 PureView. This is much different from the PureView camera used in the Lumia 920. That is basically just a marketing term. The real PureView is the 41MP beast. It outputs 34MP photos which can then be zoomed in much better than your standard smartphone camera. The report goes on to say that Nokia will be revamping the camera interface in the Lumia EOS.

Nokia has brought four more EA titles to its collection of exclusive games. All four are excellent games that Lumia owners will enjoy, and non-Lumia owners will be jealous about.

Today Nokia has brought four more EA titles to its collection of exclusive games. The four Xbox for Windows Phone games, which ironically can't be played on all Windows Phone devices, include Mass Effect Infiltrator, NBA JAM, Real Racing 2, and Tiger Woods 12. All four are available today for Nokia devices.

Mass Effect Infiltator is based on the popular sci-fi console game. In the game you play as a Cerberus agent who is trying to take down the organization that he realizes is corrupt. It's a very good mobile spin-off for fans of the original game. Available for $6.99.

NBA JAM needs no introduction. This classic arcade-style basketball game started on the SNES and has continued to be beloved for its exaggerated 2-on-2 gameplay. The game is officially licensed so you can use your favorite teams and players. Available for $2.99

Racing games on Windows Phone are dominated by the Asphalt series, but Real Racing 2 aims to change that. This game has 30 cars to choose from, a long career mode, Quick Race, time trials, and multiplayer over WiFi. If you have a need for speed you need this game. Available for $4.99.

Last is Tiger Woods 12. Yes, your calendar is correct, it's 2013. Despite getting this game late it is still probably the best golfing game available. You can customize golfers, play in tournaments, andd go up against the best in the sport. You won't even get a sun burn. Available for $2.99.

Microsoft doesn't poke fun at Apple much these days, but that changed with their latest Windows 8 ad. The ad shows off how Windows 8 can do much more than an iPad, and Siri narrates the whole thing. It's is worth a watch.

Microsoft's number one target these days is Google, but one company they will always compete with is Apple. The two companies haven't butted heads much in recent years, but they have a long and storied history. Historically Microsoft has dominated Apple in the PC market, but that all changed with the "post-PC era" and the iPad. Now that Microsoft has a legitimate tablet OS they are taking the battle to Apple once again.

In a brand new Windows 8 ad Microsoft takes on the iPad and Siri. The ad shows off how many things the iPad can't do while Siri narrates it. Things like live tiles with real-time info, Snap View multitasking, and Microsoft Office are put on display. The whole ad is done in the familiar Apple-style. At the end Microsoft even points out that you can get the Asus VivoTab Smart for $200 less than an 64GB iPad. The ad is very well done, and shows just how Windows 8 is about doing and an iPad is about playing. What do you think about the ad?

It's been well documented that Google and Microsoft don't get along very well, and that has been even more apparent with the recent YouTube conflict. Microsoft created a YouTube app without Google's permission, Google got mad and sent a Cease and Desist, and now we're here.

Today Microsoft sent out an update for the YouTube app to address some of the concerns Google had with the app. First and foremost they have removed the restricted video and offline video access. These features are not found in any official YouTube app, so we can't be too upset to see them go. Microsoft told The Verge ""We have been in contact with Google and continue to believe that our two companies can work together to hone an app that benefits our mutual customers, partners and content providers." We hope that is true.

Instagram for Windows Phone has been a depressing story so far, but thanks to some 3rd party developers there is finally some bright spots. A few weeks ago we were introduced to Instagraph, the first Windows Phone app that could upload to Instagram. Unfortunately it was a little slow, and it didn't do anything but upload. Enter Itsdagram.

Itsdagram is the first full featured Instagram for Windows Phone app. It does it all, and that doesn't include delays when uploading photos. In the app you can view your dashboard, see popular photos, get notifications, like, comment, and share photos, and of course upload your own. You can even register for an account. There are built in filters that work just like Instagram as well.

When using Itsdagram it feels like I'm using the official Instagram app. That is the ultimate compliment for an app. When the official app inevitably comes to Windows Phone it will be judged against Itsdagram. So far all Instagram app have come at some cost, but Itsdagram is the first to be available for free. Download it now for Windows Phone 8, and soon Windows Phone 7.

A notification center is a mythical feature that many Windows Phone users desperately want. Developers have tried their hand at making one, and they've actually done a pretty good job. But 3rd party developers can only go so far. A true notification center will need to be made by Microsoft.

Yesterday during the Xbox One event something slipped by everyone's watchful eyes: a notification center. The Xbox One has a notifications tile for users to easily check all incoming notifications. As you know, the new Xbox software is based on the Windows core. What else is based on the Windows cor? Windows Phone 8.

This is certainly not a confirmation that a notification center is coming soon, but it is a good sign. Microsoft has said they didn't have time to put the notification center in Windows Phone 8, and now we know they are capable of making one for the Xbox One. How many Windows Phone users want a notification center?

Here on WinSource we don't usually cover gaming that often, well, besides the plethora of awesome Windows Phone games in the Store. Today something happened that hasn't happened in five years: Microsoft announced a new console. All the rumored names were wrong, and when the dust settled we were looking at the Xbox One. What does it do, and what does it mean for Windows?

The biggest thing the Xbox One does is integrate with your TV. You can now watch TV, see a channel guide, and change channels right from the Xbox. No more switching input. You can also do a lot with your voice. "Xbox watch SyFy." Microsoft wants the Xbox to take over your living room, and with this integration it very well could. They also announced Skype for Xbox One.

Kinect is obviously a huge part of Xbox One. As mentioned above there are quite a bit more voice commands in the One. You can wake up the Xbox just by saying "Xbox on," and you can switch between apps effortlessly with your voice. The connect also has some gestures, like a grab and pinch that will take you to the home screen. A home screen that looks a lot like Windows 8.

They only mentioned it briefly, but the Xbox One does run on Windows 8 (among other things). It's actually three operating systems at work. The Windows kernel allows the Xbox to be extremely powerful. It can switch between apps almost instantly, run more than one app, and power some very intense games. Windows is the horse that is powering this machine, but most users won't even realize it.

That's the Xbox One, in a nutshell. They did not announce pricing or exact availability, but it's coming later this year. Will you be buying one, or do you have allegiance to Nintendo and Sony? Is the Xbox One the one for you?

Microsoft has officially unveiled the Xbox One and revealed some of the specs for this next-gen device. Some of the specs are still unknown, but we have a pretty good idea of what this device has to offer. In the chart above we have stacked the Xbox One up against the PlayStation 4 and Wii U. These are the top three next-gen gaming consoles that will dominate the next few years.

Keep in mind that we don't know all the specs of the PS4 at this time. There are still some comparisons that need to be made, but this chart is a good starting point. Who do you think is the winner? There is still some to learn about the Xbox One. We will fill in more information as it becomes available. If you had to pick right now which device would you buy? Are you loyal to the Xbox name?

Microsoft has just unveiled the Xbox One, and one of the the things they have announced so far is a Skype. It works with the Kinect camera to give you great quality voice chats with all your friends. It can even be snapped to the side of the screen while you do other things (pictured above). Skype really makes sense on a gaming system with a camera. This is like what you see on scifi movies, and now it's here. Will you use Skype on Xbox One?

Leap Motion has posted a new video to show off future Windows 8 gesture controls. Leap Motion is a device that plugs into your computer and sits in front of the screen. You can then use your hands to control things like you would with Kinect. Leap Motion was a popular Kickstarter project that was largely funded.

Windows 8 is born for gestures, which makes the idea of Kinect-like control very promising. In the video Leap shows off a number of things that can be done in Windows 8. It will support full multi-touch gestures out of the box. You will be able to pinch, zoom, swipe, drag, and draw all over the OS. Your floating finger will become the mouse.

Leap will be an interesting alternative to a touchscreen. With a touchscreen you have to reach all the way to the screen, which can be a pain if you're using a monitor/keyboard set-up. With Leap Motion you could just raise your hands off the keyboard a bit and navigate around. Leap Motion will be shipping on July 22nd.

Microsoft is holding an Xbox event at their Redmond campus today, but thanks to a new app by Microsoft you will be able to attend the event just by using your phone.

In case you've been living under a rock, today Microsoft is unveiling the next generation of Xbox. The event is taking place at their Redmond campus, but will also be streamed live online. Over the weekend Microsoft launched an app for Windows Phone 8 users that puts the event right in their pocket.

The app is called Live Video Player, and today it will be used to stream the Xbox event right on your Windows Phone 8 device. Since nothing is playing yet we're not sure how well the app will work when millions of people tune in, but we'll give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt. We will also be covering the event for anything related to the Windows world, and you can also watch it live online.

Since Microsoft has named the app vaguely we expect them to use this for any live event they stream in the future. Tune in to the event today at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. Download the app below if you have Windows Phone 8. What do you expect to see in the next Xbox?

When T-Mobile announced the Lumia 521 (our review) they also mention it would get an update soon after release. That update has arrived, and it enables WiFi calling, a great feature many T-Mobile phones enjoy. This update is a little different from most updates you'll get, so pay attention.

First it starts like any other update. Go to Settings>Phone Update, and check if the update is available. If available it will start downloading and then ask if you would like to install it now or later. Here's where things get interesting. Unlike normal updates this update requires a master reset to install. All your progress in games will be lost, and you'll want to make sure to back up your data.

Once the update is done you will notice a new WiFi Calling app. In the app you can set up WiFi calling to use WiFi preferred, data preferred, or WiFi only. The update doesn't take terribly long to install, but it's not a quicky either. Go forth and download!

Earlier today we talked about the next big Windows Phone update likely coming in 2014. That got us thinking, what would a "big" Windows Phone update entail? Windows Phone 8 isn't even a year old, but there are some things that other platforms have that we don't. In 2014 that will be even more apparent.

If you were on the Windows Phone Team at Microsoft what would you pitch for "Windows Phone 8.1"? What are the features from other platforms that you want? One thing I would like is individual volume controls for things like media, alarms, and ringtones. I would also like links to open up certain apps, such as Twitter link opening a Twitter app.

Now it's your turn. Let's build Windows Phone 8.1 together. What do you want to see?
