    Introducing myself, a WP7 enthusiast

    Hi all,

Saw a tweet about the Lumia 900 contest, and decided to join the community. I've been a WP users since it launched. I started with a Focus, which was a breath of fresh air, after being stuck on a Blackberry that seriously was making me lose my mind.

I moved this summer, and unfortunately, I had to switch to Verizon because AT&T reception at my house was horrendous. I'm using a Trophy now, which is great because it's WP, but the hardware is seriously lacking. I hate to admit it, but it lags a bit, and is just plane boring . My Girlfriend (who uses a Lumia 800) is now getting pretty good reception at my house, so I'm looking to make the move back to AT&T, with a Lumia 900.

I would call myself a WP evangelist/enthusiast for sure. I recently got a few friends of mine to order Lumia 900s instead of android phones. I have my phone dev/interop unlocked, and enjoy messing around with some homebrew apps, but have not touched anything like custom/reskinned live tiles because I enjoy the look of the "stock UI" too much.

Thanks! I really am. I actually got rather frustrated at some co-workers last week who were talking about upgrading their corporate cell phones. Company I work for is switching to T-Mobile, from AT&T, so no more iPhones. He said "I F%$^#$ hope I don't have to get a Windows Phone!" I did all I could to defend how great it is, but he is a DEEP apple fanboy and would not listen to anything I said; however, later that day he did approach me and ask me about the Lumia because he had seen it online.

I'm glad he's asking about it now, but i do feel your pain. I work at Future Shop and 8/10 cell phone sales people don't like the Windows Phone, i asked why and they couldn't tell me why, so i lol'd. I said just because iPhone has an Apple logo slapped on the back doesn't mean anything. They said all Microsoft did was copy Apple and Google and i replied saying, "Ummmm, Where does the iPhone and Android have LIVE tiles?" Then, quiet from all of them. I told them they really have to give it a shot instead of judging it because it's "Windows"

Already one step ahead of you, got a manager to switch over to Windows Phone from hating windows. Microsoft has no idea how much the public helps them with the spread of the word of their nice products. I'm assuming you'll be spreading the word with your new Cyan Lumia if you get it galloping along like no ones business!

Haha, I will be showing it off to nearly everyone! I wouldn't even need to try, the cyan version has a magical quality that lets it attract people to it! Keep up your evangelism, and once Windows 8 comes out, maybe we can convince some MacOS diehards!

That stinks, especially now that you're switching from the carrier with the Lumia 900 and the Titan II to the one without them. Maybe you could have convinced him if the company stuck to AT&T and assigned him a Lumia!

I tried to evangelize the Zune to my friends but too many already had iPods so it was kind of a lost cause. It's hard to convert those who have already made their purchase!

ya, but I can still have a personal phone, which is what I plan to do.

I used to do PR for Microsoft and worked with Ben the PC guy a few brief times, but this was before he worked on Windows Phone. Seemed like a nice guy, about ripped my hand off when we shook hands.

Good, you still get a chance to rock a Lumia! I talked to Ben the PC Guy for my blog and h seems really enthusiastic about what he uses. He's what a struggling platform like Windows Phone needs

and while I REALLY try to convince friends of mine to give WP a shot, I can't blame them for not wanting to leave the ecosystem they are so used to/deeply ingrained in. It won't be an easy battle, but I think the Lumia 900 launch REALLY opened other people's eyes, and it will do well, but I think the big test will be with WP8. Hopefully there will be hero devices for more than just AT&T, that are "better" than the Lumia, which will then I think REALLY kickstart a "switcher" campaign from other mobile devices.

Yeah, when Windows Phone starts getting readily available on all carriers and it comes with higher resolutions, then Windows Phone has a real chance at success. Hopefully with success comes developer support!

I totally agree. It's VERY important for the enthusiasts to push the product to the people they know. I don't think WP will be a success without this. As I said before, people will be skeptical to leave ecosystems that they have deep ties to, but if their good friend, colleague or sibling can prove that it was an easy move, and the OS is great, then we're in business.

It's actually trying Windows Phone in person that helps convince iPhone and Android users! If only Microsoft found a way to break into people's homes and made them buy Windows Phones!

Good news is WP7 is a great OS, and once we get a little bit better app support, things will really fly. Also, if the rumors are true that WP8 Nokia phones are "incredible" and "unbelievable," we should have a good shot. Nokia Apollo Phones to be ‘incredible’ and ‘unbelievable’? I admire dedication, and I see Windows Phone fanyboys (and girls!) as dedicated to their mobile OS of choice as Mac users are to their OS of choice. To each his or her own!
