Hello all. I'm a future Lumia 1020 owner looking for a good community to join. I used a few WinMo 6.1 and 6.5 devices back in the day but jumped ship because I was unhappy about Microsoft starting over with the platform. So I've been on Android for the past few years, almost exclusively HTC devices, but I was never really comfortable with the embrace of the Googleplex and I'm looking to switch back to Windows. (I suppose there's that other popular platform, too, but I've never given it much thought.)
I convinced my girlfriend to get a Lumia 920 back in the fall. She's far from an early adopter when it comes to tech, but the feature set overcame her concerns, and she's been thrilled with the phone ever since. I'm on Verizon and wasn't too impressed with the WP phones available at that time, so I reluctantly ponied up for a Droid DNA.
I've reached the point, though, where the 1020 is just too tempting to pass up, so I'm going to abandon VZW after 10 years as a happy customer there. I need the camera more than anything — the DNA is terrible in low light — and I think I've figured out how to get around the few apps I'm going to miss. And, frankly, I just prefer Microsoft as a company over Google and would like to see them succeed in mobile. It's a little tougher to abandon HTC after all these years, but I've come to terms with the fact that they're just not able to play with the big boys anymore, and I'm really in awe of the build quality and features of the Lumia line.
I've done a little bit of posting and a lot of reading over the years over at the Android Forums site, so that's why I'm signing up here even though the community seems a bit smallish. Here's hoping it grows quickly over the next few months and years.
