Getting rid of my iPad was really freeing. I was spending way too much time poking around on lcd screens, and not enough time outside living. A phone, e-ink reader, and desktop computer is the perfect combination for me.

My phone, HTC Tropy, is a bit small as a consumption device. I use it mainly for email and communication. I have a laptop at home and and Ipad. I tend to use the Ipad for reading and playing a couple games. Laptop is for heavy searching and also RSS reading.

I good tablet that could be converted to a laptop would be great. Also considering a Kindle Fire as a substitute for ipad as its smaller for traveling. When Amazon comes out with rumored backlit ereader - I will go back to Kindle.

How is the iPad for reading novels? I would think my eyes would get tired too quickly when I'm trying to read on the display

I have heard good things about reading on modern LCD screens. However, there really is no replacement for E-Ink, except for physical books, of course. The act of reading an E-Ink screen really has no comparison; it's a totally different experience for me.

I've never had a Kindle, so I guess I'll have low standards when I get my iPad later this year! Thanks for the info!

I'm a laptop and phone guy. I'm going to get a windows 8 tablet though, and that will make me mostly a tablet and phone guy I use my phone mainly for facebook chat because I can just chill out on the couch and talk to people. My laptop is my youtube device. I'm not a very demanding user to be fair. I also use microsoft word on my samsung focus to take notes down, until the battery dies..

Tablets are great for video and picture sharing, way easier than lugging a Laptop around

I still use my laptop more than anything else. I don't really need a tablet as the laptop is small, light, and supports a Wacom Stylus. Phone is kept on me at all times and is used to take notes in places where I can't bring a laptop. No desktop for me as I frequently travel between NZ and the USA.

Do you have a Wacom Pen tablet? Do you love it as much as I do?

I would get a Windows 8 Tablet, have both a laptop and desktop and use both equally

Before I had a laptop, I shared a family desktop. Laptops just will always get more use from me, if only because of their portability

Oh for sure! Laptops are great for this use, i also got a free 12 cell battery for my HP which works wonders when i don't have my ac adapter handy. I see less and less of Desktops now, HP had over 5 different models, now your lucky to see 2. I see alot of All-In-One's now with the whole touchscreen capabilitiy, which will be very nice when Windows 8 comes out.

I'd certainly like to buy a Transformer like desktop if the battery life was long enough and the screen large enough!

That`d be pretty sweet! If Dell made this: Introducing the new Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook with a touchscreen, i`d buy it.

I have a netbook, an Android phone, and a desktop. I used to spend most of my time on my netbook, but I gradually became more fond of using my phone, and I find I tend to be on the desktop a lot, but it's my gaming machine. But I find that the small screen of the netbook is sometimes a hindrance for me; I wonder if I had a laptop instead if I would use it more. I don't have a tablet, but I think if I did it I would use it as a cross between my phone and my netbook, and not get a lot done. :P

Personally, I believe laptops are way more useful than Netbooks, whose claims to fame are cheap prices, small screens and bad performance. When Windows 8 hits, you should really consider buying a laptop and kicking that netbook to the curb

If all Windows laptops become cheap, good looking ultrabooks, I certainly wouldn't mind. Plus Microsoft is favoring ultrabooks with 5 point multitouch screens

From what I hear, there will probably be Win8 tablets starting in the $300 range (maybe cheaper) and then of course, all the way up to pricey, specd out devices. I may be interested in some sort of hybrid laptop/tablet device, if I feel like the integration works well. As much as I love being able to lay in bed with a tablet, etc, I just think I'll miss a true keyboard too much. Although, I'd hope OEMs would make really nice docking stations with bluetooth keyboards, etc that will give me the function of a laptop strictly through a tablet.

Those pricey ones will be the ones with Intel chips. Maybe Microsoft's Hardware Division could offer an official docking station for cheap. Nobody knows good keyboards more than Microsoft, trust me!
