    A cool mix

This surface is a pretty cool mix of windows that we're all used to, and windows 8. You can kinda toggle between the environments. It does feel a bit weird to be going from new age to old school on the same system but it's also fairly comforting.

More later, only now getting to look at it.

Is it the Pro you're looking at or the RT version? From what I can recall the RT is more like Windows Phone 8, except for tablets (ie, no desktop environment). Has this changed?

it has a desktop, but only like 5 pre-installed apps work in the desktop, and you can't install desktop apps.

For RT, i was really hoping MS would have found a way to abandon the desktop. But I'm finding a number of apps that are helping me avoid the desktop as much as possible.
With Office there is no say around it for now.
