I really think if this pans out, it will be a gigantic part of the overall success of WP. Word has come out that Verizon is now on board with plans for a WP8 LTE device. Additionally, there is another T-Mobile Nokia device allegedly being tested. It word gets out that MS/Nokia sold over 1 million Lumia devices in the quarter, I think it will be a HUGE incentive for devs who are not on board to rethink their strategy.

It's akin to the Touchpad sales when it hit $99, except developer support never really arrived for the Touchpad. Hopefully devs realize the importance of a third ecosystem and not just the big two

lol, I have a Touchpad that I got for $99! For $99, it's an incredible device, but that firesale only happened AFTER HP abandoned the OS, so I disagree that it's similar to the Touchpad. The Lumia's price was similar, but I think it's pretty different because Microsoft and Nokia are still very much behind the OS.

You're right. Imagine if HP and developers were actively supporting the Touchpad! It'd be an instant iPad competitor...
Anyway, the only real way to succeed as an underdog is to subsidize heavily and hope you come out of the fight with enough support to regain money later on.

I agree! If they injected more cash into it and developers, it could be a big hit and definitely an instant iPad competitor.
My friends and a couple family members got one when it was on for $99 and absolutely love it!

HP could definitely learn a thing or two from Microsoft as well, they are well known for injecting cash heavily into their projects until they are succesful, look at Xbox for example, lost over $4 billion dollars (Forbes: Xbox lost Microsoft $4 billion (and counting) | Joystiq) before it started to make a profit; that's a lot of money!

Why they lost patience is beyond me. The Touchpad was out for what, 45 days? Even when they lost money, they could have put some force into making the $99 Touchpad a competitor! I agree with you, they could have had an immediate hit, but they just gave it up so awkwardly!

Ah completely, i'm glad HP is making it opensource at least, it will bring a few developers in perhaps. I mean, it's not completely dead in the water yet, who knows what HP will do in the end.

I thought the Kin lasted longer! Wow, Verizon could have saved the Kin if they didn't price it as a feature phone. God knows I would have gotten one if it was a dumbphone and I wasn't on Sprint at the time!
