I know in the case of PvZ, it was $5 when first introduced on Android. When they started moving it toward a "freemium" model they cut the price on Android. Since they haven't added the ability to buy coins to WP, they don't seem to be inclined to change the price, either. Personally I'd rather just pay the $5 up front anyway.
