Does anyone remember Windows Mobile 7?

I am still waiting for them to bring a camera to WP platform ala Kinect

Although it looks like HTC pretty much ripped off the idea and added it to WinMo HD2 and then other devices.

All these will be possible thanks to a new technology concept that uses the device's camera as a motion sensor, enabling motion control while using the device. Unfortunately, that means that the camera will need to be turned on every time a gesture may be used, thus sucking the battery life. The same camera will trigger some predefined action based on the light sensitivity. The moment you put your phone in your pocket, the screen will be blanked and the device will enter into standby mode. You can also set the device to automatically change to Silent mode (Vibration ON) or to simply turn the Ring to louder volumes.

I remember those screenshots but I never knew they were planning motion control. Interesting read, gets me all nostalgic for some reason.

I have never used windows mobile, but from the looks of those screenshots I'm glad they took the windows phone route!

I used 6.1 for about a week and it was as awful as everyone said it was... awful, to say the least. Small buttons for stylus support, horrible text messaging support, ugly apps and that unhelpful start screen. Going for a hard reset was the best thing Microsoft could have done

I still prefer HTC HD2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Sense over Android 2.3, used it for years and minus the ecosystem it was fine

Wasn't the last version of Windows Mobile 6.5? Because 7 was the first version of Windows Phone.

Yep, that was their last ditch attempt to claim that Windows Mobile was ready for touch. This was supposed to come out, but thankfully we got Windows Phone 7 instead!

What??? I would have to question that statement, even Android is definitively better to Windows Mobile 6.5!

I always felt like Windows Mobile was like a bad version of Blackberry, which was bad enough itself IMO. Nothing seemed optimized for a small mobile device... it was just cramping everything into a ugly phone.

But then again, the entire mobile landscape was much different 5 years ago. Basically everything looked like that.

Imagine if the iPhone never came out. Microsoft may have never changed it's mobile platform and we would be stuck with that hideous OS. Android wouldn't have even become a touchscreen OS!

I would argue that Windows Mobile 6.5 had less developer support and a way more inefficient user interface. ICS would beat Windows Mobile 6.5 any day of the week.

Yes, this is why I mentioned the eco system.

As for ICS, I agree it's better but not in HTC HD2, rooted and it lagged, not as much as Android 2.3 but still, it requires dual core to run efficiently, unlike Windows Phone.

Sorry, I missed the ecosystem comment. From what I've seen, though, ICS is a more efficient that previous versions, despite the dual core trend. ICS wasn't built for the HD2 either
