Apple '10 years' behind Microsoft on security: Kaspersky

Interesting article that arose shortly after Apple had that flashback attack on their system.

Get a chance to read this, i recommend it! It's saying how now Apple is entering the world in which Microsoft did 10 years ago with viruses, and that Apple is now bound to have many more attacks.

Agreed. People always say Macs don't get viruses, but they don't because there isn't a big enough user base. Now that Mac usage is on the rise, the virus situation is about to get a lot worse.

I've heard the comparison that a PC is like a house in the ghetto with armed guards and a Mac is like a house without a front door, out in the country without a neighbor for 5 miles.

Haha that is a pretty good analogy, and it might be true if your not smart about where you go and open on the internet. If your smart, like alot of people, it's more so the case with being out in the country without a neighbor for 5 miles with a PC.

When Apple released their commercial and it said "Mac's Aren't Compatible With PC Viruses" people got the impression that Mac's don't get viruses.

Being in the tech industry i do confirm that seeing the databases for both PC and Mac, Mac does have alot, in fact over 500,000, PC, i can't remember the number but yes, a lot more than that. Mac's will catch up as they are getting more popular, completely agree with you techblitz.

It's just like Android and malware, they are HUGE compared to Windows Phone and iOS just because of the market share they hold.

I don't think there has ever been a better analogy.

To add to your Android remark, Google has been plain out lazy in policing their store, forsaking security to "openness"

Just another good way to put people off Apple from my perspective.

Yes you are definitely right about that. I mean viruses will happen on any device, the people who make them are very smart.

You just have to be smart and be safe. I mean there are lots of antiviruses out there for the devices as well which helps

In Buffalo, NY, you tend to see all iPhones and, in my school, some Windows Phones and a whole a lot of Android phones!

The fear that sparked among all my Mac friends about the flashback incident was kinda hilarious to watch. None of them had anti-virus on their stuff and thought it was bc Apple made their OS unhackable or something. And none of the computers in my design departments mac lab have anything like that on there.

It was like swine flu panic for hipsters.

I guess the bright side to all of this is that, considering the rumors Win8 will launch with Microsoft Security Essentials...Apple might give second life to Kaspersky, McAffee, Norton and every other company that's about to become practically obsolete on the Windows platform.

That is unless of course an average consumer buys their PC at Best Buy, those people will tack on 2 antiviruses regardless of whats built in.

Security Essentials won't be apart of Windows 8, well technically yes, they are naming it "Windows Defender" which is the name they have now for the quick scan of your PC. Norton says they aren't worried but i know they are shi**ing their pants right now. Apple has to get in the game if they want to survive without being the next "PC", they are way to cocky when it comes to security.

Hahah and totally agree about the whole Best Buy thing, it could be worse. 60% of AOL customers are still on the belief they need it to get internet, and their still dial-up

Quick, unrelated story: I literally had to spend a couple of hours explaining to my uncle that the AOL browser doesn't exclusively has the AOL homepage (an albatross in its own right), and any other modern browser can set a home page to AOL. Still don't if he ever switched, hopefully he did! AOL.
