    The easiest hardware upgrade for my parents and older coworkers was to touch based input. It simplifies everything. I think what has to be done is to just push them to make the jump into a new physical device instead of upgrading what they have and trying to do touch input with a mouse/keyboard combo.

    Yeah, I'm conflicted this. I don't know how many elderly consumers will upgrade to tablets, but the success of the iPad for the elderly suggests that they do like the form factor. But for desktop users, it's going to be hard to push them to a new Windows tablet when their previous desktop experience with Windows 7 is superb already.
