Microsoft is developing a service to migrate all your Android apps to a new Windows Phone

Microsoft wants to patent an app migration service that would have a few different layers of functionality. First off, it could analyze what apps you have installed on, say an Android device (Microsoft even uses this example in its patent application). Then it would search for identical or similar apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace, present you with suggestions, and let you buy and install every app you want to with one click. In case an official app isn’t available in the WP Marketplace, this would presumably suggest well-performing third-party alternatives.

That'll be really handy for everyone. I had a customer the other day who was limited to choosing another BlackBerry (I know, i let everyone down, but i did try) because all her messages and other functions would have been completely gone unless she had both phones at all times. She needed certain apps and other things that only BlackBerry to BlackBerry could do, this would be an excellent idea!

This would be awesome especially for games like drawsomething and words with friends. I hope that they are able to bring over more games so you can compete against any of your friends regardless of which phone they have.

I just used the "Switch to Windows Phone" app today and it worked great. I started with the exact matches, and when I have time I'll go back and check out the other equivalents. Did save me time already from having to go hunt for apps.
