Describe an original game idea you'd like to see on WP

    Hello everyone,
I'm a game developer interested in the Windows Phone platform. It's safe to say I've got a million ideas of my own, but I'm also interested in what this slice of the community might like. I'm not really interested in cloning existing games; I'd rather have a general new concept or interesting way to use the hardware. WP needs some killer apps, too, not just clones of other platforms' hits.

Hmm what windows phone does lack is dual stick shooters. Like geometry wars or minigore. I know you said you don't want to clone games but, you could put a unique spin on it

You could always utilize the Xbox/Windows Phone compatibility. Maybe have someone scan an object with the Kinect, hide that object somewhere in the Kinect's POV and the person with the Windows Phone would use their camera to find the object. Just a thought, but there's definite room for improvement with Xbox Live and Windows Phone interoperability. Maybe a variation of this idea, because I just thought of it but I really like it!

Unfortunately I don't have an Xbox or Kinect, though I might be able to take such an AR "I Spy" type of idea and run with it in pure Windows Phone.

Not a clone by definition-- there's several ways you can go with that. I'll think about it.

Other ideas I've gotten from various sources: a 'true' roguelike (step-based dynamics, randomized items/weapons), an innovative platformer (think 'Braid'-like innovative gameplay elements-- I already have an idea for such). Also, Nokia is talking about creating a sort of app-request site which I might join in on.

If I had a Windows Phone, I'd be willing to attempt, but alas, I'm both Windows Phoneless and I lack the ability to be an intense developer.

Platformer! Theres a lack of good platformers on windows phone, and the ones that are there lack the fun aspect. Do a good job and it'll be sure to be a success

I spent a few weekends a while back fleshing out a dual-stick first person shooter. A handful of friends and I thought it worked pretty well (considering touchscreen). I had carefully tuned the controls to be manageable, and it has moderate auto-aim type features. Had a whole framework in place for weapons, enemies, maps... I stopped when I realized how much work it would be to do art assets and animations and AI. Neat toy though.

Edit: Oh and it is all physics based, which is awesome. If you kill an enemy with the shotgun from up close he would be blown backwards! I could probably add dismemberment in just a few hours. Would have made for a great zombie shooter.

That actually looks pretty awesome. People are itching for a console/PC-esque FPS experience on their phones. If you decide to pick it back up, you might be able to find someone to do some models on XDA or reddit.com/r/windowsphone.

Don't worry. The best platformer ever is almost completed.

    Unlocked phone? Try it! christianprescott.com/shooter.xap

Yeah, so, uh, what I meant to say, instead of plugging my own vaporware, was that I'd like to see a competent FPS. Something that runs smoothly and that you can control without spinning your view around wildly. I know there are a few WP shooters, but they haven't nailed it like some of the big iOS/Android ones have.
