Verizon CFO: We are fully supportive of Microsoft, there is a need for a third mobile ecosystem

Joe Fedewa is 23 years old and lives near Lansing, Michigan. He's been interested in technology ever since he got his first flip phone. Since then he's evolved from flip phones to smartphones, and become even more interested in everything from cord cutting to web browsers. Joe is also an avid sports fan and sci-fi movie geek. He's a Joe of all trades.

Usually we don’t get to talk much about Verizon on this site, but lately they’ve been in the headlines more than usual. Last week they updated the HTC Trophy to build 8107, updated the My Verizon app, and now their CFO is making comments about Microsoft.

CFO Fran Shammo said they are “fully supportive” of Microsoft, and he went on to talk about the need for a third mobile ecosystem. He also made this promising statement:

“We created the Android platform from beginning and it is an incredible platform today that we helped to create, and we are looking to do the same thing with a third ecosystem.”

We all know how Verizon helped Android get off to a good start with the DROID. It seems AT&T is trying to do something similar right now with the Lumia 900, but if Verizon got in the game that would be huge. These are very positive statements from Verizon. Hopefully they mean a Nokia device is in the pipeline. Verizon had a good relationship with the Finnish handset maker back in the flip phone era. A rekindled friendship would be good for everyone.

Good to hear! Now, let’s see them back up that statement by getting some cool new WP devices.

I hope they (attempt to) do so, competition is good, it makes competitors improve.
