There’s been a lot of speculation about Windows Phone 7.8. What features will it include? How many phones will get it? When will it be released? Thanks to an AT&T document we have an answer to that last question.
An internal memo at AT&T reveals that Windows Phone 7.8 won’t be available until after Windows Phone 8 comes out around October. This might not be what you wanted to hear, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Microsoft wants to sell Windows Phone 8 devices. If they give too many features to current users they won’t feel the need to upgrade. Plus they don’t want 7.8 to steal any thunder from WP8, which they will surely make a huge deal about.
Joe Belfiore actually also confirmed this in a Windows Phone Blog post here. It looks like we have some waiting to do.
