Yesterday we told you about a rumor from China Times that Microsoft was planning on releasing its own Windows Phone handset sometime next year. It’s been speculated since the reveal of the Surface tablet and Microsoft themselves have tried to squash the rumor, but speaking to an anonymous source, BGR seems to have confirmed that this will be a reality.
“Microsoft is quietly working on an own-brand smartphone that will compete directly with high-end devices like Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy S III, and also with Windows Phones built by its own vendor partners, of course.”
According to BGR, the handset is in the final stages of development, but it will not be released with the current Windows Phone wave that we’ll see in November/December. No other information has been leaked concerning the new handset. A few of you yesterday said you would wait of this rumor turned out to be true. This spells trouble for Nokia and HTC especially. What do you think?
