If you were on the fence about pre-ordering the initial run of Surface tablets that Microsoft unveiled on Thursday, then you’ve got a few more weeks to decide. Just shy of a week after Microsoft made the Surface available in three different options, all of these options have been exhausted for October 26th delivery. The Site is now listing shipments to ship within 1 to 2 weeks. We know that Microsoft ordered a production of between 3 million to 5 million Surface tablets for this holiday season, so to see them sold out so quickly online is definitely good news.
Obviously Microsoft is staggering the release of the tablets in order to make sure shipment goes as smoothly as possible, but we can honestly say we’re shocked to see the tablets go so quickly. The $499 price point without the touch cover is a bit steep, but browse around any Android or iOS tablet page on Best Buy’s questions an answers pages and you’ll see questions like, “Can I install Office suite on this?” It’s obvious there’s room for a Microsoft tablet on the market, it just remains to be seen if that tablet should feature Windows 8′s new design style.
