Microsoft giving away Media Center upgrade to W8 Pro users until January 31st

One of the many sore points for Windows 8 critics is the fact that Microsoft removed Windows Media Center and DVD playback from the stock operating system, instead offering it as a paid upgrade. Microsoft seems to be offering an olive branch to those who were upset by this announcement by offering early adopters the Windows Media Center Pack for free until January 31st. This means from until now to January 31st if you happen to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, you’ll be eligible to receive this pack for free. The pack will allow you to record TV and watch DVDs on your computer.

This is great news for those who rely on these functions in Windows 8, but honestly around here VLC fills in the need just fine. Will you be taking advantage of this offer from Microsoft when you upgrade?
