Yesterday the Windows world was rocked when it was announced that Steven Sinofsky would leave the company. Apparently Bill Gates agreed with Steve Ballmer’s decision to let Sinofsky walk in a similar move to Scott Forstall’s leaving Apple. The consensus seems to be that Sinofsky was a hindrance to cooperation within the company’s various departments, which is a problem when Windows 8 is designed to be integrated into all of Microsoft’s current offerings, including Xbox and Windows Phone. According to AllThingsD, both Ballmer and Gates want “various units [to] work together more closely going forward.”
Consolidation seems to be the name of the game at Microsoft these days.
