Instagram is famously not available on Windows Phone. I’m sure I didn’t have to tell you that. It is a well documented saga that has gotten even more interesting in the last few months. What’s made it interesting is a new batch of apps that allows uploading, something we’ve never been able to do before.
First it was Instagraph with its backend server, long queue times, and upload limits. The next app to attempt this feat is Itsdagram, and if all goes well it won’t have any of those problems. Itsdagram uses a hacked official Instagram API to access all of the things you would be able to do in an official app. Yes, we said everything.
Create an account, like, comment, upload, share. view popular photos, etc. etc. The one and only thing you can’t do is add filters in the app, but the developer has decided to leave that up to the dozens of great filter apps already available. The one caveat to all of this is that since it uses a hacked official API it could break when the official apps get updated.. Just like when unofficial Pandora apps would suddenly stop working.
Itsdagram is currently going through the approval process. WPCentral says if it does pass, and that’s a sizable “if,” it should be available in the next 7-10 days. We’re hoping it does pass through the approval process. Unless Instagram decides to join the party this might be the best we get.
