Wow.
This is something I didn’t think I would ever type: Windows Phone has an official YouTube app. Today Microsoft has announced that the YouTube “app” is getting a major update. Previously it was just a shortcut to the mobile site, but today it is finally a fully featured application.
What can it do? Well, everything. Pin videos, playlists, channels, and searches to the Start screen. The tiles flip to show the latest uploaded content. There is easy access to playlists with a brand new touch-friendly design. Videos can be played in the background if you just want to listen, even when the phone is locked. Of course you can also view, comment, like, and share videos like you would expect.
If you already have the YouTube app installed this will just show up as an update, but it is basically a brand new app. We can now check off another app from our “Top 5 Apps Missing from Windows Phone” list. How excited are you for this app to finally be here? Download it below for free on Windows Phone 8 (WP7 coming later).
