We often talk about how great 3rd-party apps are on Windows Phone. They help us use services that won’t develop official apps. Instagram is the most popular service for 3rd-party apps, but there is a “dark side” to using unofficial Instagram apps. By simply using an unofficial app like Instance you can find your account marked “suspicious.”
Rufy Huyn, of 6sec and 6tagram fame, has outlined the situation on his website. Basically if you use any unofficial app your account will be flagged as “suspicious.” The only apps that won’t do this are Rudy’s 6tagram and Hipstamatic Oggl. When your account is marked as “suspicious” you can still upload photos like usual, but your photos won’t show up in hashtag searches.
When your account is marked as suspicious it lasts around 7 days. Even if you go and use the official Instagram app on iOS or Android your photos still won’t show up in searches. Keep using unofficial apps and you will remain marked as suspicious. How can you shed the suspicious flag?
The first thing you should do is log out of all the unofficial Instagram apps (except 6tagram and Oggl).you use. Once you are logged out of all unofficial apps it will take a few days for the suspicious flag to wear out. None of this may even matter to you unless you’re trying to get popular with hashtags. Just make sure to log out and you should be fine soon.
Thanks Rudy for explaining this!
