Facebook Beta update adds inline tagging, photos in messaging, and more UI polish

FB Beta update

The Facebook beta app continues to get better and better. Today the app has been updated to version 5.1.0.1, and with it comes some much-needed features. The most notable additions include inline tagging and attachments in messaging, but there is much more to be excited about.

The inline tagging works like you would expect. When you want to tag someone type the ‘@’ symbol and start typing the name. Suggestions will appear above the keyboard. Attaching images in messages can be done with the new icon to the left of the text box. You can choose photos from your phone, or take a new photo. It was very annoying to not be able to see photos in messaging, so I’m glad to see this fixed.

Some of the other new features include the ability to save photos with a long press, multiple photo upload, and navigation improvements. One of the nav improvements I’ve found is a little round bubble that appears to show new posts and to take you to the top of the news feed. With each update we get closer and closer to feature parity with Android and iOS.
