One of the initial concerns about Microsoft purchasing Nokia’s hardware division was that other manufacturers would ditch Windows Phone. Nokia already has the vast majority of Windows Phone market share, and that is a turn-off to anyone looking to start making Windows Phone devices. The big OEMs, like Samsung and HTC, haven’t said much since, but a few of the smaller companies have spoken up.
One such smaller company is ZTE (who actually isn’t that small). They haven’t offered many Windows Phone devices in the past, but ZTE vice-president He Shiyou says they aren’t going anywhere. He says ZTE is commuted to the platform, and will launch new Windows Phone after Microsoft’s purchase of Nokia’s hardware division. He did say they were hesitant at first, but Microsoft was reassuring to partners.
ZTE may not be the biggest maker of Windows Phone devices, but it’s still important that they feel it’s safe to continue making devices for the platform. Nokia is great, but we don’t want other companies to abandon Windows Phone.
