Nokia has a very distinct way of naming phones. Lumia 920, 820, 720, 620, 520, 1020, 900, 800, etc. These names can sometimes sound pretty generic, especially when there are several variations of the same phone, such as 920, 925, and 928. Still, we do like the Lumia+number naming scheme better than every phone having some weird adjective as a name.
One of the many things Steve Ballmer has talked about since Microsoft announced their purchase of Nokia’s Devices and Services Unit is phone names. Ballmer had this to say on Nokia’s naming conventions:
“I will say that I think we can probably do better for consumer names than ‘the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 1020,’ and yet because of where both companies are and the independent nature of the businesses, we haven’t been able to shorten that.”
Hey Steve, I think you’re confusing the Nokia Lumia 1020 with the HTC Windows Phone 8X, which Microsoft had a big hand in creating. I personanly don’t see anything wrong with Nokia Lumia 1020. Most people just say “Lumia 1020,” or “that Lumia phone.” Hopefully Microsoft doesn’t change the “Lumia” name, as it has become synonymous with Windows Phone.
Do you think Microsoft should change the way Nokia names phone?
