The “next big thing” in the Windows Phone world is the GDR3 update slated for later this year. Like with GDR2 and “Amber” Nokia has their own nickname for the update: Bittersweet Shimmer (we will never refer to it as ‘BS’). We’ve seen a few leaks about Bittersweet Shimmer in the past, and today we have even more.
Bittersweet Shimmer will add some specific features for Lumia devices. One feature that will get an overhaul is Glance. Several current Lumia phones have the Glance screen, which shows the time when your phone display is turned off. In it’s current iteration the clock is white text, but can be turned red at night. In Bittersweet Shimmer there will be many more colors.
In Bittersweet Shimmer they will give you 20 colors to choose from, including blue and green. It’s not a major feature, but it’s a nice level of personalization. Nokia will also add notifications to Glance screen. Below is a list of other features coming in GDR3/Bittersweet Shimmer.
- Custom sounds.
- Close out apps in multitasking.
- Icon for multitasking apps.
- 1080P display support.
- Support for quad-core processors.
- Driving Mode.
- Screen rotation lock.
