Some of the newer Android phones can be operated without even touching the device or turning on the display. This is very cool for when you’re driving or just don’t feel like fiddling with your device. Many people don’t realize that Windows Phone 8 actually has a feature just like this. You can send and receive text messages (SMS) without touching your phone. No Cortana required.
How To
Enabling this feature is one of the easiest things you can do, but also one of the coolest features once it’s working.
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Speech.
- Under “Read aloud incoming text messages” select your choice.
- Choose female or male voice.
That’s all there is to it. In order to hear the messages being read to you the phone can’t be on silent or vibrate mode. When a text message comes in the voice will say “Message from [blank], you can say “Read It” or “Ignore.” If you say “Read It” the voice will read it aloud to you and then say “You can say “Reply,” “Call,” or “I’m done.” If you say “Reply” she will ask you for the message you want to send, then ask you for permission to send it.
