Will a Nokia Tablet Discourage Other Tablet Makers?

I just want to ask this question, seeing as Nokia is Microsoft's valuable partner these days. When Nokia makes their own halo Windows 8 tablet, will other PC manufacturers be discouraged to make Windows 8 tablets. With Android tablets going nowhere and iPad dominance continuing, I feel as if current tablet vendors are between a rock and a hard place; they have to use Windows, but they can't compete with Nokia and Microsoft's partnership. Microsoft will have to show some real diplomacy here, and I'm anxious to see how this plays out. Are my fears unjustified? You can call me out on my crazy in the poll above!

Hmmm. I don't know, but I suspect not. From what I've seen, Windows 8 Tablet is going to have a LOT of very cool, very useful features that apple simply doesn't have. they look like a 16:9 aspect ration, which allows them to split the screen between two apps, which is HUGE, I think. split keyboard & controls up and down the sides that put everything you want to do in thumbs reach. no holding in one hand and navigating with the other...etc. AND people like choice, not just in OS, but in hardware. I'm a visual guy, so I cannot tell you how SICK to DEATH I am of brushed aluminum devices. It's the new dead-flesh tan plastic that every computer from the 80's and 9o's was made of. It's everywhere, and I dont know about anyone else, but I want something else! FUnny that apple really first took off with that famous 1984 commercial claiming everything was monotonous, identical, challenging people to "think different" and now they are the truly monotonous company. everything must be done their way, there is no choice. But now Im just rambling. Give me CHOICE! 7 billion people on earth. theres room for more choices.

So do you think that Windows 8 will get manufacturers to make Windows tablets despite Nokia being a favored partner?

As I think about it, Windows 8 may be the only viable tablet OS competitor, seeing as Android tablets aren't going anywhere, fast. We'll see

Oh, I think they'll certainly try. Another thing manufacturers can do with W8 is offer tablets at lower price points , which would will reach millions of customers that apple cannot.

I think it all depends on if the tablet format is simply an apple fanboy phenomenon, or something that the general public truly wants. If it is, MS wont have any problem finding companies wanting to make tablets for em.

I think tablets are a genuine consumer want right now. Microsft may try to offer lower price points, but Android 4 is free to use on tablets. Instead, I think Windows 8's draw is the face that it's Windows and it will already have proven developer support and consumer recognition. Plus, if ARM tablets nail down the Metro interface, and the desktop stays far our of the way, it'll be a success story for manufacturers and Microsoft alike

It's funny, Motorola tackled the same issue with their original Xoom commercial that aired during the Superbowl.

Lower price point + MANY choices + fully functioning tablet PC running windows with no compatibility issues = win for MS and tablet makers. The manufacturers pricing are even beating out the MS Surface, So far Samsung and HP and Lenovo have very nice convertibles at very reasonable price points. And most still cheaper than an iPad. Granted most are running Atom CPUs, but there are a wide variety of i3 and i5s out there as well for not much more.
