Nokia’s Lumia ODM, Compal Communications has seen a massive hit in revenue for a drop of 39.5%, attributed to the fact that Nokia has reduced orders for its current Lumia handsets, according to Digitimes.
The announcement of Windows Phone 8 by Microsoft with the lack of a clear upgrade path has led many analysts to believe Nokia will have difficulty selling current-gen devices that are already out. This could lead Nokia to write off billions of dollars in unsold inventory in order make way for the launch of the new Lumia line featuring Windows Phone 8.
Obviously Nokia will be slashing prices in an attempt to get rid of the current Lumia devices, so those who don’t care about the next version of Windows Phone could settle into Windows Phone 7.8 cheaply and happily. Q2 2012 was a rough one for Nokia, but it’s expected that things will be even worse in Q3 2012 before Nokia sees any light at the end of the tunnel.
