Microsoft Releases MSN Messenger App for Chinese Audiences Only

Ashley is a 26 year old with an enthusiasm for all things technology related. She hails from the Southern United States and when she's not tweaking her Android handset, she can usually be found in front of the computer or Xbox 360 enjoying the latest game releases.

Well, this is certainly an odd turn of events. Today Microsoft released an official MSN Messenger app for Windows Phone, but the app is available only in the Chinese language. You can download it from the Marketplace, but there’s no localization to the app so everything will show up in Chinese.

The app seems to be very well made and features the ability to login from several accounts, which is a big deal for many people. We find it curious that Microsoft chose to offer the standalone app to Chinese speakers only, but perhaps this a test of how well a standalone app will do in the Market. If it’s received well by Chinese Windows Phone users, Microsoft could very well decide to localize it to English or other languages.
