Several weeks ago we told you that Microsoft was teaming up with Barnes & Nobile in regards to its series of Nook eReaders. That partnership has been finalized today and Nook Media LLC is the new company founded from this deal. The company is a Barnes & Noble subsidiary founded with a $300 million investment from Microsoft, with the deal that a Windows 8 reading app will be produced promptly.
Barnes & Noble CEO William Lynch seems particularly pleased with the deal, as he has stated:
“[We are] working closely with our new partner Microsoft to add value to their innovative new platform by bringing great reading experiences and one of the world’s preeminent digital bookstores to millions of Windows 8 users.”
Currently there’s no word on the availability of the Nook app for Windows 8, but we’re betting it’ll be available at launch later this month. The real question here is how the Amazon Kindle app for Windows 8 will evolve once the Nook app is made available.
