HTC pokes fun at Lumia 920 for being a heavy phone

A common theme in the early Lumia 920 reviews is how heavy the phone feels in the hand. This is a common thing among Nokia phones. Some people like it, some don’t. HTC is hoping to prey on those who don’t like heavy phones by pointing out how much lighter the 8X is than the 920.

HTC posted a photo on their Facebook wall that shows an 8X and a pile of pennies. The caption reads: “Don’t get weighed down. The HTC 8X is more than 20 pennies lighter than that ‘other’ Windows Phone.’ Oh snap. So what does “20 pennies” translate to in real measurements? The HTC 8X is a whopping 55 grams lighter than the Lumia 920. There is good reason for the 920 to be that heavy (PureView camera, larger screen, etc.) but is it too much?

    I guess I would be on the fence until trying them both out a bit. The extra $50 for that camera and screen on the Lumia920 would be worth it, I’m sure… but the 8X is a sexy device too. It’s a good time for WP people, that’s for sure.

    I’m curious if they got this idea from the Windows Phone subreddit, because there was a guy who taped pennies to the back of his Lumia 900 to gauge the difference.

    I have to try each out. I think the shape and feel difference is also factor. I bought the Surface recently - it feels heavy but solid. I like solid. So the 920’s weight alone isn’t a killing issue for me.
