Microsoft Talks App Compatibility & the Death of Silverlight

So as I was browsing around for news today, I ran across a Windows Phone development blog post that confirmed that purchases made for Windows Phone 7 will work on Windows Phone 8. It also seemed to confirm that Silverligiht is a dying breed and will be phased out for Windows 8. What do you think about this?

It's probably wise that Microsoft will make all apps compatible with what's coming, as no one has had to repurchase apps between verisons of iOS and Android. People would get really pissed if that were the case. Here's the link to the article if you're interested in reading more:

I didn't think app compatibility would break, but it's surprising that Silverlight will be mssing. I guess they just wanted Windows 8 and Windows Phone dev. ties to be even closer

I never really cared for Silverlight, but I really hope they don't kill XNA. At least most of the Silverlight code is transferable.

Killing off XNA would be a really stupid move, but thankfully we haven't crossed that bridge yet
