Skype leaves beta with version 1.0, still no background notifications

The Skype app that finally arrived in the Marketplace under beta has received an update. The update brings the app up to version 1.0 and strips off the beta tag. New features include searching for contacts, calling to landlines, and some other optimizations and improvements. The optimizations have made for solid VOIP calls over WiFi, 4G, and even 3G.

The one thorn in Skype’s foot still remains. Background notifications are still absent from the app. Once you leave the app it essentially signs you out. This is a huge hole in the apps functionality. We expect Skype to be built in to Apollo, but until then we really need some more improvements in the official Skype app.
