
In the U.S. Windows Phone is relegated to the four major carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint. Microsoft is hoping that Tango will make cheaper phones available to more carriers, but it’s looking like Windows Phone 8 might be the sweet dessert they were waiting for.
U.S. Cellular, the 6th largest U.S. carrier, has released a short statement saying they are excited about Windows Phone 8 and it will be included in their device lineup in the future.
We believe in giving our customers the latest technology and device options and we are excited about the Windows 8 phone. It will be an important part of our device lineup going forward.
This is really great news for Windows Phone. Being on the Big 4 is definitely important, but if local carriers like U.S. Cellular are already on board that’s a very good sign. We didn’t see this with Windows Phone 7.
