For a long while now Microsoft hasn’t been very forthcoming with exact Windows Phone numbers in quarterly reports. For the first time in ages however, it seems Microsoft has something its proud to crow about, as the company is reporting Windows Phone unites have increased 50% from Q1 to Q2, with nearly 80% of the increase in sales being attributed to new Nokia handsets.

Of course, this isn’t a direct sales number, but the IDC reported 3.3 million sales in Q1 and a 50% increase of that number sits at 4.9 million. For those that were worried that Nokia hasn’t made the dent that it hoped to in the market, I think these reports speak volumes for what the company was able to achieve in just one quarter of being available in the United States.
