How well is Windows Phone doing for Microsoft? It’s obvious that Microsoft’s big business is PCs, but if you’re wondering how much Windows Phone does for the team at Redmond we have some numbers. According to Seeking Alpha, Microsoft made around $736 million from the mobile division.

According to the chart, that’s $20 million less than the 2011 fiscal year. However, the average unit price of devices went down this year, so more devices were sold for a lower profit. Selling more devices, but making less money is a necessary step to take. It probably wasn’t smart for vendors to think they could sell a brand new OS at the same price as the established competitors. Here’s to 2013 being even better!
